Pride Award Winners

Pride Award Winners

This week in Room 1 Ben received the Principal's Award. He had been away for two weeks on holiday. When he got back he was behind on his climate change work. So he had to work hard on it, so he could catch up. He completed his work in time so he could have it up on our open day website. Also this week our P.R.I.D.E certificate winners were Jayden, Kaiden, Sapphire and Tatiana. They received the award because they used diligence also. They have been diligent because they have been working very hard in class for the past few weeks. Next week there will some more awards to give out.

Term 3 Reading. Inferring.

A learning need for Room 1 readers is to practice the reading comprehension strategy of inferring. To do this we will be looking at why inferring means and practicing inferring with small excerpts of text. We will then keep a track of our inferring using tables like the ones below that differentiate literal meanings we glean from texts and inferred meanings. Look out for your students versions of these tables (and their vocabulary building work) n their blogs this term).

Example of Vocabulary Building Learning Activity

Term 3 Reading: Vocabulary Building

Hello everyone. Here is some term 3 reading work I am planning. One of the cornerstone learning needs for students at every level is vocabulary building.
This week we will be looking at vocabulary from a text called 'Gary the Worm.' We will use challenging words from the text to develop our vocabulary building strategies.
By designing definitions and reflecting on how we came to the definition, students are encouraged to become metacognitive about vocabulary building strategies.
