Room 1 Adding Decimal Fractions
Adding Decimal Fractions
This week room one have been learning to add decimal fractions. We have talked about how to work these problems out a number of different ways.
Dallas' way:
0.375 + 0.125 = 0.5
0.375 + 0.125
0.005 + 0.005 = 0.01 because ten thousandths make one hundredth.
0.375 + 0.125
0.07 + 0.02 = 0.09 We also made one more hundredth in the first step, above so 0.09 + 0.01 = 0.1 because 10 hundredths make one tenth.
0.375 + 0.125
0.3 + 0.1 = 0.4 plus the tenth that we made in step two, above. 0.4 + 0.1 = 0.5
So the answer is 0.5 and we put that in as the answer to the original question.
Jevyn's way:
0.375 = 375/1000. 0.125 = 125/1000.
375/1000 + 125/1000 = 500/1000.
500/1000 = 5/10 = 0.5 so the answer is 0.5
Thanks Dallas and Jevyn.
